Helping children understand and use language appropriately in social situations.
Social Communication Disorder (SCD) is a condition affecting the social use of language, including difficulty with conversation, understanding nonverbal cues, and adapting communication to different contexts.
Children with Social Communication Disorder understand the rules of language but struggle with its social application. They may have trouble taking turns in conversation, understanding sarcasm or humor, staying on topic, or adjusting how they speak based on who they're talking to. Unlike autism, SCD does not include restricted or repetitive behaviors. Our therapy focuses on teaching explicit social communication rules and providing practice in natural contexts.
